Meeting Held with GIZ and French Technical Cooperation Organization at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport

On March 27, 2026, a meeting was held at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport between the leadership and representatives of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan and representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the French Technical Cooperation Organization.

During the meeting, various cooperation opportunities were discussed within the framework of a new regional project funded by the European Union. Experts from GIZ and the French organization highlighted that the project focuses on simplifying trade and customs procedures in Central Asia, including Turkmenistan, improving tariff policies, and modernizing transport management through public-private partnerships.

The international experts shared the results of discussions previously held in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, expressing their readiness to provide consultancy services for the development of Turkmenistan's maritime and river transport sector.

The Turkmen side briefed the guests on the large-scale projects in the maritime industry, particularly achievements in national shipbuilding. It was noted that the construction of dry cargo ships is currently underway, with the first vessel nearing completion. Additionally, information was provided on the digitalization of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue cooperation in the proposed areas through diplomatic channels, subject to agreement with the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
