The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN in Geneva organized an international event entitled “The International Dimension of Neutrality”, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the status of Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan, as well as the International Year of Peace and Trust declared in the country.Over 300 people, including heads of diplomatic missions, leaders and representatives of international organizations, non-governmental organizations, business circles, the scientific community, the media and youth, attended the event.The Executive Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), Ambassador Thomas Greminger, delivered a welcoming speech, noting Turkmenistan’s significant contribution to the development of a culture of peace and interstate dialogue.The main reports were presented by the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Vepa Hajiyev and Director of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Shiri Shiriyev. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of the policy of permanent neutrality as an effective tool for preventing conflicts, ensuring regional stability and sustainable development.The President of the Geneva Centre for Neutrality, the Permanent Representatives of the Republic of Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates to the UN Office at Geneva, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of India to the UN Conference on Disarmament participated in the panel discussion.Based on national and regional experience, the session participants presented their vision of neutrality in their speeches, emphasizing the versatility and relevance of this concept in modern international conditions.The event also included a number of bilateral meetings, including talks between the delegation of Turkmenistan and Ambassador Thomas Greminger, during which prospects for cooperation in the field of diplomacy, sustainable peace and neutrality policy were discussed.
